Sacred Spaces: Tibetan Buddhist Shrines

This iOS and web-based app presents information about the functions and meanings of select objects displayed in the “Tibetan Buddhist Shrine Room from the Alice S. Kandell Collection.” Illustrated by a trove of photographs from across the Tibetan Buddhist world, this app also teaches users about the many types of Tibetan Buddhist shrines and the variety of practices that take place within and around them.

Hyecho’s Journey Website

This website explores eleven places visited by the eighth-century Buddhist monk-pilgrim Hyecho, highlighting the diversity of religions, cultures, landscapes, and artworks he encountered during his pilgrimage.

Coauthored with Donald S. Lopez, Jr., Kevin G. Carr, and Carla Sinopoli.

Hyecho’s Journey App

This iOS app uses the eighth-century pilgrimage of the Korean monk Hyecho to teach users about Buddhism and eight artworks on display at the Freer|Sackler. Text, audio, and interactive games brings together Buddhist stories and art history with details from Hyecho’s journal to take users on an adventure through the Freer|Sackler or in their imagination.
